Google Sites lets you create portals and webpages with ease

I have a Google Apps account, and I received this in my mailbox today:

Google has just released a new product called Google Sites, and you can start using it today!

What is Google Sites?
It’s an online application that makes creating a team web site as easy as editing a document. You can quickly gather a variety of information in one place — including videos, calendars, presentations, attachments, and gadgets — and easily share it for viewing or editing with a small group, their entire organization, or the world.

  • Anyone can do it — Building a site is as simple as editing a document, and you don’t need anyone’s help to get started.
  • Share from one place — Create a single place to bring together all the information your team needs to share, including docs, videos, photos, calendars and attachments.
  • Work together — Invite co-workers, classmates, or your entire organization to edit your site with you to keep it fresh and up-to-date. And let as many or few people view your site as you want.

Take a look at some example sites to see how you might use Google Sites:

Dreaming of running my own nightclub

San Diego moonstone lounge at the Hard Rock hotel

Although it’s no long my style to go clubbing and have a nightlife, I have always had a special interest in nightclubs. I would like to run my own join some day. My friend Johann used to run one. We were both into the same types of music (electronica - techno, trance, house) and he would DJ in his club and it looked like tons of fun.

Those were the days. I must admit I miss my college days when we would party almost every night and come to class the next day with a heavy hangover. I’ve been to Hard Rock more than I could count, although I have never been to the famous San Diego moonstone lounge at the Hard Rock hotel. Maybe I should aim for the clubbing business? I have always wanted to have a restaurant as well. For starters, I will have to choose one. There are pros and cons. I already have two food stalls and at this stage I am trying to envision the path that I should take.

Whatever happens, I’ll definitely be in the food business for a while.

Cheap and fast usability testing

Last January I had an interesting discussion with Meryl Evans and Bill Moore on usability testing (direct link to part 1 and part 2). The gist of it is doing usability testing in a sandwich shop, and in the course of our discussion a couple of key advantages surfaced, mainly:

  1. The results are more realistic
  2. It allows for unanticipated issues to surface
  3. Priceless inputs from the “average Joe”

Why NEDA secretary Romulo Neri did not tell all

Romulo Neri photo

I received this in my inbox today. This is concerning Mr. Romulo L. Neri, Director General, National Economic and Development Authority in the Philippines.

What is Neri afraid to say and Why?

Many speculations have been made as to what Neri knows about the ZTE-NBN most particularly the direct involvement of Pres. Gloria Arroyo in this abominable affair. After his damaging “Sec. May 200 ka dito” demolition of Abalos, the discredited former Comelec Chairman, many were left disappointed when Neri suddenly clamped up when the Senators started asking him about the nature of his conversation with Arroyo, no amount of coaxing, cajoling and threats was enough to break his Code of Omerta. The question on many people’s mind was, What was Neri trying to protect when he repeatedly invoked “Executive Priviledge” during that gruelling 12 hour Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on live television?

We have known the Truth all along as one of the few people that Neri confided his predicament during those fateful days of April 2006, and how he wanted to resign his post of NEDA Director General and Secretary for Socio-Economic Planning over this incident where he lost all his moral respect for Pres. Gloria Arroyo.

We are doing this document to give the public an understanding of this predicament.

House of Apes: of JDV and GMA and ZTE and OMG WTF LOL

“Pinag aawayan nyo lang ang kickback ninyo!” blurted Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago in one of the sessions of the ZTE Broadband Scandal.

Nothing more can be farther from the truth, as we Filipinos witness the ousting of House of Representatives speaker Jose de Venecia, following a move by Palawan Representative Abraham Kahlil Mitra. As of writing, the votes are at 143 to 32, in favor of declaring the Speakership vacant. Prior to this, JDV was given the chance to air his sentiments, and he did so for 58 minutes (although he was only given 10 minutes). As he emotionally described (with accompanying slams to the table) his contributions to the society and how he supported the past presidents, including GMA, I could not help but be amused.
