For the longest time Facebook has without a doubt conquered the social gaming market. Now that dominance is being challenged by Google Plus when it began social games earlier this month. The first batch of titles include games such as City of Wonder, Sudoku, Bubble Island, Bejeweled, Wild Ones, Diamond Dash, Monster World, Zynga Poker, Dragon Age, and even a socialized version of Angry Birds. I have been spending quite some time logged into Facebook lately and I noticed a trend where certain links with shocking images are posted. Clicking on the link will take you to a spam page where you are supposed to complete a series of tasks before taking you to the actual “shocking” video. Usually the page would require that you do the following:
Click the Facebook like button (most likely to keep spreading the spam page)
Click the Facebook share button (again, to spread the spam page)
Complete some survey (most likely to generate some $$ for the creator)
The Gin Blossoms are back with a vengeance! They landed in Manila on November 18, 2010 to promote their latest album, “No Chocolate Cake”. My friend Jean luckily got her hands on lower box tickets courtesy of Tutti which she graciously shared with me (luv yah Jean!).
It was an electrifying evening as Robin Wilson and the gang rocked Araneta Center with 20 songs including 3 encore songs. The list included old-time favorites like Hey Jealousy and Alison Road to their latest songs like Miss Disarray and Wave Bye Bye.
Front acts included Delara (formerly Mojofly), Cookie Chua, 6 Cycle Mind (Tutti you rock), Gloc-9, and Fahrenheit 43, an Aussie band which happens to have two Pinoy members.
The acoustics were so bad in the opening acts that I was a little worried that the Gin Blossoms would sound the same. You could see the artists giving their all, but the sound was just terrible. The vocals aren’t clear and the instruments were muddy. The guitar solos did not ring as distinctly as they should.

However when the Blossoms came, the sound instantly changed. Though the Araneta Center was not equipped with enough speakers to fill the entire hall, at least the audio was tuned well enough it felt like taking dirt out of your ears.
Look towards the sound control area and you will find that they actually brought their own eqipment and audio technician. Smart move on the part of the Gin Blossoms. The effort they took to sound as good as possible really showed, and it is definitely something the more audio-sensitive in the crowd would appreciate.
After the group finished playing “Hey Jealousy”, I noticed that a sizable number of the audience went on to leave the arena. They went on to play “Wave Bye Bye”, the final song of the main set.

The Gins went on to play three more encore songs, including a Pinsouls cover of “Now”. The lack of reaction from the crowd reflected the unfamiliarity of the songs, which makes me think they should have ended with “Hey Jealousy” instead.
After Manila, the Gin Blossoms proceeded to Cebu for the second half of their promotional tour in the Philippines.

On Sunday November 14, Manny Pacquiao showed the world that he truly is the pound for pound king by beating the bigger Antonio Margarito to claim his 8th title and become the undisputed WBC World Super Welterweight Champion.
It was all Manny from start to finish as he methodically dismantled the Mexican boxer round after round after round. After 12 rounds of pounding, the judge’s score cards were at 120-108, 118-110 and 119-109 – all for the Filipino champion, Manny Pacquiao.
So dominating was the Pac-man’s performance that by the 11th round he looks at the referee as if asking for a stoppage. At the end of the fight, the Tijuana Tornado’s face was a bloody mess with both of his eyes nearly shut.
Prior to the event there were doubts about Pacquiao’s conditioning among boxing fans. He was often portrayed as being out of shape and distracted with his many activities totally unrelated to boxing. Among these were his involvement in politics, business, and entertainment.
In the HBO’s 24/7 he is often seen stumbling against his sparring partners, many of whom were relatively unknown. Conditioning coach Ariza and trainer Freddie Roach were very concerned about his speed and power, given that the fight will happen at 150 pounds.
Now that Margarito is out of the way there is one last fight the world wants to see. When asked in the post-fight interview, Manny stated that he is not afraid of Floyd Mayweather Jr. Will Floyd step up to the challenge?
The 28-year old Mexican-American now sports an undefeated record of 9-0, while Lesnar slumps down to 5-2.
Prior to the event, former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was heavily favored to win the fight. Velasquez proved to the world that with the right attitude and skills a smaller, lighter guy can dominate the larger, heavier guy in a physical fight.
