My new motto in life

Be the best, aim for the best.
Do not settle for anything less.

It seems that Google wants a piece of the VR (virtual reality) revenue pie oh so famously milked to its bare skin and bones by Second Life, by introducing the new Google Lively (beta, of course!)

From the website meta-description:

Chat and hangout with your friends in rooms you design and customize your avatar. Experience another dimension of the web with Lively by Google.

Lively’s features include the following:

  • Create your own virtual space

Chat and interact with your friends in rooms you design

  • Express yourself

Customize your avatar and stream personal photos and video

  • Add your room to your site

Invite your friends to chat and help decorate

Google may have has also embraced the popular torrent based distribution method by providing a 450kb download, which is what I believe to be a torrent downloader. Note that this is just my unconfirmed hunch. After all, the mighty Google has all the bandwidth in the world to spare, and then some.

Of course, creating an account is easy as 1-2-3. If you already have a GMail account, all you have to do is sign in to the Google Lively website and it’s activated.

Happy birthday to me!

So today is my birthday. Happy 13th birthday to me!!!! :)

Okay. I lied. I’m 14. Gomen, gomen ^_^;

  • Personal Hell

According to Ted Chiang, “Hell is the absence of God”.

According to me, Hell is the conscious denial of God’s presence. For God is everywhere, and without Him there will be no Hell.

Man’s own personal Hell on earth, however, is one’s existence denied by a loved one.

Jesus was put on the cross. Yet, He never denied anybody.

The point is, Hell is man-made.

    Can’t get enough chill

It has come to my attention that I have been listening to way too much Jack Johnson. Looking at my Last.FM profile, I am very close to scrobbling my 1,000 Jack Johnson track:

    Dennison’s Top Artists on Last.FM

I did some simple math. On my 1,000th play, assuming the playtime for each scrobble averages at 3 minutes, I would have played a total of 3,000 minutes. Divided by 60 that’s 50 hours total or 4 days 4 nights and 4 hours of non-stop playing. It doesn’t sound so much anymore when you place it in that context.

But still, you gotta love Jack especially with his new album Sleep Through The Static.

Jack Johnson - Sleep Through The Static 2008 album cover

“Recorded using 100% solar energy, printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, and carrying the 1% For The Planet logo.”

    Awesome.

  • Dreaming of running my own nightclub

San Diego moonstone lounge at the Hard Rock hotel

Although it’s no long my style to go clubbing and have a nightlife, I have always had a special interest in nightclubs. I would like to run my own join some day. My friend Johann used to run one. We were both into the same types of music (electronica - techno, trance, house) and he would DJ in his club and it looked like tons of fun.

Those were the days. I must admit I miss my college days when we would party almost every night and come to class the next day with a heavy hangover. I’ve been to Hard Rock more than I could count, although I have never been to the famous San Diego moonstone lounge at the Hard Rock hotel. Maybe I should aim for the clubbing business? I have always wanted to have a restaurant as well. For starters, I will have to choose one. There are pros and cons. I already have two food stalls and at this stage I am trying to envision the path that I should take.

Whatever happens, I’ll definitely be in the food business for a while.

    Moderation

    Drink
But only with the right company.

    Smoke
    But only the good stuff.

    Gamble
But only what you can afford to loose.

    Dive. Plunge. Risk.

    But always, always, always
Remember to quit while you still can.

    The Value Of Knowledge

There is something good about being confident in one’s knowledge.
But I pity the know-it-all who, blinded by his own conviction, has lost respect for a fellow’s differences.

The moment the self is placed on a pedestal,
the moment one ceases to listen,
the moment arrogance is valued over respect,
    Knowledge becomes worthless.

For the value of knowledge is always relative.
    It is never absolute.

    Cebu Sinulog 2008

So I went to Cebu to celebrate Sinulog this January 2008. Maybe I’ll write a full post of my experience soon but in the meantime check out my photos.

    Better

I never strive to be better than anybody but myself.
There will always be someone out there better than me,
But against myself I will always be the best.
