Anyone who’s into the ad serving / CPM business knows how daunting it can be to setup an ad server. This time however, it looks like Google has a hot product in its hands with its free ad management solution, the Google Ad Manager.

Currently in beta stage, Google Ad Manager is a very promising free ad management solution that provides a host of features while complimenting other Google products.

Ad Manager promises to deliver a wealth of features to help site owners with:

  • Inventory management
  • Yield optimization
  • Ad targeting
  • Trafficking, ad delivery, and order booking
  • Creatives and rich media management
  • Reporting
  • User interface navigation
  • Account administration

It also promises to be free, does not require exclusivity, and will not be bound to AdSense or to any ad network.

The ad manager interface looks simple and straightforward enough to meet the most basic ad management needs. Create text or image ads, insert the necessary JavaScript tag and you’re good to go.

Wait wait wait … did you just say that this was a JavaScript reliant solution? Yes folks just like Google AdSense and Google Analytics, this one also requires JavaScript. I can almost hear you folks grunting: What about the 3% JavaScript turned on? What about screen readers? What about text browsers? Well, unfortunately they will be missed. If that is a huge concern, feel free to install alternate server-managed solutions.

For the majority of website owners, however, Ad Manager’s features coupled with its awesome reporting tool should be enough. Coupled with the fact that it’s free and will most likely take the average Joe no more than an arm and a leg to get this thing up and running, I am certain that Google Ad Manager is bound to be a hit that will compliment other Google products such as AdSense, Adwords, and Analytics.
