Over the past few days I’ve been appreciating Puddle of Mudd’s last album Famous. I’ve had it when I first came out October of last year, but I’ve never really had the chance to appreciate it as I did now. I mean I love POM but when on my first few listens, “Famous” didn’t really stick. Their sound has sort of changed and I guess that alienated me.

So this re-discovery started with the song “Psycho”, which I discovered in a YouTube video. I was like holy crap this track is amazing! Who sang it? OMG? POM? Really??? From which album? Oh but I had that album last year, how could I have missed this little gem?
So anyway I dusted out Puddle of Mudd – Famous album and gave it another listen and boy did it grow on me. The whole album is the shit.
Wish I could say the same for Alanis Morisette’s new album though. Entitled Flavors of Entaglement“, I found a bootleg copy on *cough*torrent*cough* and gave it a whir. No reaction. Is this really the album I waited 4 years for? I don’t know. My excitement level was not met. It’s a lot more operatic than her previous albums.

So far it has been pretty much a hit and miss for me. Some tracks I really loved while some just failed at getting my attention. The words are a bit repetitious, and the tracks although multi-layered also sounded repetitious, resulting in my immediate fatigue. Maybe I just need listen to it more. After all, her last album took me a while to digest. I guess it’s because I keep expecting something like Jagged Little Pill, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, or Under Rug Swept. Ah, those were the days. I do appreciate the musicality and artistry of the latest album though. It just doesn’t pull me in like before. I am sure the lyrics are just as poetic. I’ll have to try listening the songs with the lyrics. Maybe that’s what I’ve been missing out on.

To end this write up, prior to all this I’ve been listening nonstop to Marié Digby’s new album Unfold. She has the same effect on me as Jack Johnson, James Blunt, Jewel, and Sarah McLachlan. Her voice reminds me a lot of Mandy Moore, and although Mandy Moore may be the better singer of the two (I think they are both great singers, I just think Mandy has more experience and training), Marié sings more soulfully and honestly while Mandy is more “commercialized”. Just compare Mandy Moore’s cover of Umbrella with Marié’s
