At first it was Mariel Rodriguez. Now, it’s Toni Gonzaga.

In the latest episode of Pinoy Big Brother (aired October 18, 2007), “Kuya” traps Toni Gonzaga and announces that she is to be the latest houseguest, much to the chagrin of the poor girl.

Previously a prank was played upon her during the opening ceremony of PBB Celebrity Edition 2 wherein she was trapped inside the house along with Ethel Booba. For about four minutes she went into a state of panic but was eventually released after she mentions that she has a fim “shooting” the next day.

This time however, when she met the announcement with very obviously controlled emotions. After being showed her stuff and upon realizing that this was not just another prank, her breathing became heavy and she was obviously upset.

“Kuya” says to Toni (in Tagalog):

Simula pa lang sa season 1 ako ay nagagalak na ikaw ang host ng Pinoy Big Brother.

Ikaw ang nagsilbing tulay sa aking bahay at sa outside world.

Labis akong nagpapasalamat sa iyong serbisyo.

Pero, sa nakalipas na dalawang taon na ating pagsasama, naisip kong hindi pa kita ganon lubos kakilala.

Ang mga kaibigan mong si Bianca ay naging border ko na. At si Mariel nga ay kasalukuyan ngayong Celebrity housemate.

…

Toni, nais kong ipaalam sa iyo na ikaw ang pinakabagong celebrity houseguest sa aking bahay at mananatili ka rito sa mga susunod na araw.

To which Toni responds:

Ngayon na, Kuya?

Oo, ngayon na.

I guess these guys have start to run out of gimmicks but it is indeed a novel concept to unexpectedly turn hosts into houseguests. I wonder how much research was made before making Mariel and Toni into houseguests? Did they originally plan to make Toni the houseguest, but upon her announcement that she had commitments (like the next day shooting), backed away and used Mariel instead and now that the shooting is over, they trapped Toni in (once again)?
