Unionbank E-On VISA Electron Debit Card

Finally got it! The online application really does work. I applied online and got an e-mail response telling me that my card will be available after 3 days at the Unionbank branch I specified. I went there after 8 days so I can’t really tell how fast they are but when I got there my card was waiting for me. Paid the 350 peso annual fee and that’s it!

Now I’m one more step closer to having my Paypal account activated! Will try this over the next few days. Stay tuned!
Update 12/13/2007: just went on a shopping spree at eBay with my Paypal. Sarap!

Wow, talaga, may fee? Well I didn’t exactly apply for an EON account but converted my iBank ATM to a Unionbank E-Wallet (Visa Debit) and they didn’t tell me about any fee.
Heads up lang about the Paypal thing: you’ll need an extended use number that you can get by calling Unionbank first. Hindi naman siya hassle.

The 350 pesos annual fee is quite small na compared to 1k for credit cards. One more thing I discovered is that the card needs to have some money in it otherwise it automatically becomes “inactive”. As you can see, this is my first time getting a debit card. I found this out last Friday trying to get my Paypal to validate but it was too late to make a deposit since the bank has already closed 
Is that what the “extended use number” is for (to keep the account from getting deactivated)? If not, then what is it?
Yes, the extended number is required by Paypal for verification and it does need to have funds because Paypal will withdraw and give back $1.65.

Just want to share my successful withdrawal from my paypal to my unionbank eon card.
its a great card. it doesnt have credit limit. you may only use how much you have funded your account. besides, aside from paypal, you may be able to use it to purchase online, wherever visa card is accepted. i have tried it to purchase an item, they use 2checkout (not paypal) as payment processor… and it was accepted.
also, if you have any inquiries/problem, try to reach them through email, people there are more knowledgeable than their call center staffs. beside, they promptly answers my inquiries. I also got my paypal expanded use no through it.
but in activating your paypal account (in my experience), you just need to be patient. it took 3 weeks for me before i was able to activate my paypal account and get my paypal expuse no…. all of course with the help of their online customer support.

hello, the application is for EON card. I tried calling their callcen but they weren’t able to give me feedback. They said they would call me supposedly yesterday (since i called Saturday). I even tried sending email. No replies.

I got an Eon too.
Wanted to start out with a Debit Card for practice before I go out and venture into the world of Credit Cards.
However, I’m not an online purchaser. I’m more concerned about swipe payments like at the mall or resto, is there a service charge or additional percentage charge for that?
I do know however that the maximum charge per transaction is 20k at a daily cap of 40k.
The lady at the bank did not seem to understand what I meant when I asked if there are any fees for POS (”swipe”) transactions. Anyone know?

Hey =LoZ=! Unfortunately, the E-On card is for electronic purchases only, so you cannot use it for offline (swipe) transactions. There is a Wikipedia entry on VISA Electron that you can refer to.
Not to worry however, since you can also use the E-On card like a normal ATM card. You will just have to make a withdrawal at an ATM machine before you make your purchase. Neat, huh?
The transaction fee for debit cards should be the same as credit cards, but again you need a regular debit card if you plan to make offline purchases.

Actually, I finally was able to make use of the POS swipe of the Eon. Had lunch with some friends at Max’s in Baclaran, it works! And best of all, no service charges!
Whataever was on our bill, that was what was taken off my Eon account, so one of my questions have been answered
Using it as an ATM doesn’t seem very efficient since there is a charge no matter what ATM machine after the 3rd withdrawal.
=LoZ= really? Wow, could it have been a lucky shot that the Max’s CC verification system supports electronic transactions? Have you tried other establishments?

Well, so far I haven’t tried other extablishments just yet. But I’m planning to buy an MP3 player at CDR King, apparently the one at Alabang Town Center accepts Visa.
And Union Bank does advertise “anywhere Visa cards are accepted” (Yes, I actually copy-pasted that from their website. Tee hee!).
So let’s see.

better buy an mp3 player online (try mp4nation.net or uxcell.com)… it’s much cheaper yet much better… besides, they have a lot of players that you’ll never see in the philippines, some are even better than ipod, when it comes to features,hardware and the cost.
that’s just one of the priveledges of having an EON debit card. you can use it (in mp4nation) without a paypal account. i’ve bought from that site (a meizu 8gb player) and i love it!…
this is your chance to use your card in an online purchases. that’s what ecommerce is all about. thats what i like with my card… i dont need to go abroad just to purchase something thats not available here. its very convenient because you do not need to go the mall to shop, besides with this card, you have the access to international market…. maraming kang mapagpipilian!

2 more sucessful POS transactions! I trated my girl to lunch at North Park Alabang Town Center, then bought my mom’s meds at Mercury Drug (ATC and Times since ATC was out of stock or one of the meds I needed).
So far so good! But it was kind of nervewrecking because most establishments (If not all) seem to not have ever seen an Eon Debit card, so they had that “What the heck is this?” look on their face when I handed it to them for payment. Then the cashier at Mercury Drug didn’t seem to know what she was doing, with the Swipe machine.
But it’s all good! I just checked my account online even as I was writing here, and everything is in order!

Dude! Those are US Online stores, there are still S&H charges for that. Besides, the reason I’d rather at CDR King (or the MP3 Store) is that I can always track them down easily if ever something goes wrong with it!
Online purchases freak me out, honestly. I work at a Callcenter, and some of the online transaction errors that the callers complain about are.. well, not very comforting. So maybe not, atleast not yet.

just be patient… you should have at least P300 in your account… paypal will verify if your account if it is funded, if they found nothing then they will deny your card… but sometimes even your account is funded, they will still deny your account (just like what happened to me)… i think you should wait a couple of days, i think your card is still being processed, so its not fully activated… but the best thing you can do is to try to reach their customer support service through email, i found people there are more knowledgeable than their call center. mine took almost two weeks before i was able to add my card @ paypal…

No. they are not US sellers, they are based in hongkong. I have already purchased 3 items online… and all those stuffs arrived and delivered directly in my house and i paid only P35 for custom fees. just make sure to avail of shipping insurance that is for if something goes wrong with the shipping. i have to admit that i had problems before when i made my first purchase online… but it was all settled, i found out that as buyer you are protected, you can always file a complaint or a dispute, specially if you have a paypal account and you bought your item on ebay, i think you are more protected , i think no matter what, you will never lose your money. you can always ask for a refund if something goes wrong.
Wait… how can I get my number for this so called Expanded Use-something service? Lang load ang fone ko eh.

From what I understand, you haven’t linked your Paypal account with your E-On VISA yet but you already received money ($200) on your Paypal account. This should be no problem. Your money will stay in your PayPal account until you decide to withdraw it. If that is the case, simply login to PayPal and verify your account. This will trigger a series of screens where you are asked to enter your credit card number. This is where you enter your E-On card’s information. Make sure your E-On card has at least 300 PHP in it because PayPal will charge that card ($1 I think) to verify the legitimacy of the card. This will be credited back after you enter the extended use number, which you can get by calling the UnionBank hotline after a week or so.

As for your question I am not sure what exactly you mean by this:
PayPal does not display a support e-mail address. You have to go through the Customer Service menu and send them a note from the website.
As for UnionBank E-On the hotline is one phonecall away 84-186

P350 per year for the EON, will need to pay that in order to get your card.
No iNitial deposit, No Minimum Balance.
@NhicE you will need to pay the Php 350 annual fee mentioned by =LoZ=, but you also need to have another $1 worth of money loaded on the card because PayPal will charge you that amount in order to verify your account. I only suggest that you leave Php 300 on the card just to be sure that it goes through, you can pull it all out after you do the verification process.

Welcome back, NhicE! Unfortunately you cannot withdraw money until you are verified and to do that you will need the expanded use number. Be patient and just keep following them up from time to time

PayPal is reputed to have very good security in place, although nothing is safe from hackers in the world of software and even if you could make PayPal 100% hack proof there is nothing you can do to prevent an inside job.
Beware of e-mail scams that masquerade as originating from PayPal and ask you to log into some PayPal-like website but in reality they are clones made by hackers that try to fish your PayPal username and password. As a general rule, never enter your PayPal username and password anywhere except for paypal.com addresses.

If it’s not in your Paypal account yet meaning your account did not get the funds, and there’s nothing in your Paypal transaction history that indicates something like this has occurred then you did not receive the money and the transaction was incomplete or it never happened.

Anyone here who tried this method already? Sending money from PayPal to my UnionBank EON card might take me 48 years (at baka wala na kong pang-allowance when classes resume next week). Am not sure but it looks like it’s faster to withdraw money using this method.

Yes you can send money to Xoom via PayPal but won’t you end up loosing a lot of money from the transfer fees and conversion rate (Xoom has a very low conversion rate). I checked Xoom and they charge $20 for every transfer. It may be more or less than that depending on whether you choose to receive money in PHP or USD. It may be more, but I am not too familiar with the charges because I am usually at the receiving end and I let my senders absorb the transfer cost

How far is the Unionbank branch from you? Kung malapit lang, go ahead and check on Wednesday if not go on Thursday instead.
The E-On account is a peso account. I have no idea if there is a dollar account equivalent, I doubt it. You may deposit USD checks but they will be converted to PHP at the prevailing market rate on the day of your deposit.

Yes you can use the check to open an account. It’s up to you to decide if you want to open a peso or dollar account. If the amount is big enough, I suggest that you get a time deposit account as opposed to a savings account as they have higher interest rates but you will also be required to have a higher maintaining balance.
But if you are looking to grow your money, you may want to look into mutual funds or trust funds (e.g. Metrobank’s HoneyPot, PhilEquity) or invest in the stock market.

Congrats NhicE! The rates rates are based on the current buying price for USD during the day. This is lower than the current exchange rate for the day because you are selling your dollars to the bank. Another way to see is it that the bank is (forcibly) buying it from you.

Maybe ur card is not yet activated! To do this, kindly go to the ATM Machine of UnionBank and insert your card, then look for enroll your card online banking, after that u will receive a receipt… Then wait for the 5 working days, u may now add your eon card at paypal…. next follow the steps given by the paypal after u add a card…

Ako, after ko mag deposit punta me sa atm machine nila and then check me balance sabay nag enroll online banking… wait me 5 days then add card ko na sa paypal after that wait me 5 days ulet to get the expanded use number at unionbank customer service finally verified na rin… tsaga lng sa paghhintay…hahaha

We have the same problem. I got frustrated with the online banking system so I stopped trying. I did everything by the book — I applied after my card was activated, but it still messed up.

Yes. I can check my transactions online, my outstanding balance and so on… correct me if im wrong with this… lols!

ms. nhice i really nid ur help,my card was activated yesterday just like wat yuvd said n online banking .sad to say disabled pa din daw ang card ko sabi ng paypal,kpg inenter ko na sa add card denied pa din.my fund nmn ang eon ko.kailangan ko paba tlgang icontact ang customer service ng union bank…im from laguna kaso dito ko nagyon sa qzon prov, mhrap ang payfone.kapag nsa manila naman ako pinaghihinatay lang ako ng hotline nila pero walang nasagot sayang lang ang binabayad ko sa payfone…. ms nhice…mr.dennis ano bang mabuting gawin ko???? dapat ko paba tlgng kausapin ang customer service nila para makuha makaenroll sa paypal?????

meaning, u stil have to get it by calling customer service!
try to add your card at paypal, then paypal going to ask u what to do next … like get ur expanded number after 5 working days by calling the customer service of unionbank!

mont: May explanation ba kung bakit hindi inaccept yung account mo? If not you need to contact Paypal and ask them why it got denied. There’s a help link at the top right of the account page.

or baka mali lng talaga ung naibigay sau na expanded use number… try to call again to verify!

I don’t work at Paypal but probably it’s just a one-time glitch and I’m very hopeful that it will work for you the second time around. Kaunting tiyaga lang, gagana din yan eventually! Also you may want to look into opening an account with other banks e.g. BDO

I think what you mean to say is that you can now add bank accounts in PayPal.
I wrote about that recently in another blog entry.
I haven’t withdrawn any money using this new method yet although I have successfully entered my MetroBank savings account in PayPal.
I will definitely update you if ever I do so.

2 - 3 days lng pag verify na ung paypal account mo then try to add ur eon visa as bank account tapos withdraw ka… wala naman magiging problema… basta paypal verified ka na!

with or without email, just make sure of the date of application and branch kung san mo ppick up ung card… tapos register online banking ka sa atm machine ng eon then wait 5 days, tapos add ur card sa paypal tapos wait ka ulet 5 days then call mo eon to get ur expanded use number after that u can withdraw na… goodluck…

Meron akong question about the card regarding international online purchases. Tried locating for an answer here pero walang direct answer e.
I’m trying to use this as an alternative to a credit card kasi nga since zero maintaining balance, controlled ko yung pera unlike credit cards. So assuming merong sufficient funds yung account, meron bang fees or charges besides the actual price of the product or service sa card pag international?
Halimbawa bumili ako ng item sa amazon.com na 20 dollars, meron bang fee regarding the purchase since international sya?
Nabasa ko na for local purchases wala according to Dennison Uy. Gusto ko lang makasiguro.
No other charges… just a difference on the currency exchange rates.

mr dennis gud day, kc bago na yung bankcardnumber ng eon ko,den iniadd ko sa paypal accepted naman. dat was feb14 pa kaso until now sabi ng customer service ng unionbank wala pa din daw yun expanded use number ko…so gus2 ko lang malaman kung mga ilang days ko pa kaya bago makuha ang 4digit e.u.n ko
after 1 week po yan @mont, try to follow up everyday na lng, di mo ba ask customer service if kelan ka mag follow up ulet regarding that matter? u shud ask him/her..!

It’s supposed to take 3-4 to process so it is possible for you to get the card this week. I received the following confirmation e-mail when I applied for my E-On:

Of course you have to renew your card before it expires! Para tuloy tuloy lang di ba? I don’t know what will happen in case you get a new card, but I assume you just have to add it to your PayPal account and disable the old one.

na try mo n ba iregister ung card mo sa online banking? ndi ko alam kung un nga ang dahilan kung bkt ka nakakareceive ng error… pero try mo n din muna i-enroll ung card mo thru online banking… kung wala pa rin… balik k lng dito… i’m sure.. madami makakatulong sau…
