Unionbank E-On VISA Electron Debit Card

Finally got it! The online application really does work. I applied online and got an e-mail response telling me that my card will be available after 3 days at the Unionbank branch I specified. I went there after 8 days so I can’t really tell how fast they are but when I got there my card was waiting for me. Paid the 350 peso annual fee and that’s it!

Now I’m one more step closer to having my Paypal account activated! Will try this over the next few days. Stay tuned!
Update 12/13/2007: just went on a shopping spree at eBay with my Paypal. Sarap!

nalilito lang ako pag b inenroll ko sa online banking agad ba nun mve2rify ung card? or wait ako 3 days? kasi ung mga nabasa ko dito ang hint daw n activated n ung card eh pag nkapgcheck k n ng balance? tama ba? binasa ko n kc tong whole 193 topics nun nainigurado lang po kinabahan kasi ako dun sa sinabi mo eh ahaha.
and about po dun sa EXPUSE? my ngsasabi wag tatawag ung iba naman tatawag ung nabasa ko naman automatic lalabas un sa history ng online account?
ahaha tanong ko n ung mga dapat kung itanong pra minsanan follow up n lang ako pag di ako sure. salamat po sa pgtulong mo skin.

Warning ko lng sa mga new eoncard holders …type correctly the expuse/4 digit paypal code kasi pagnakamali kayo ma disable automatically and card therefore mahihirapan naman kayo mag add ng another card. Yon lang po .

E-On Visa is a debit card because you can only make a purchase using money you have previously deposited, like an ATM account which by the way, an E-On also is.

I prefer personal account kasi kapag premier ang account mo you get charged by a certain percent. I think it was around 3% per transaction. This is the main reason why I contacted customer service and downgraded my account back to personal.
Kung pambili lang ng hosting ang purpose mo you can just find a hosting company that accepts Paypal payments. Madami dyan sa tabi tabi. Ang purpose naman ng E-On ay para magamit mo siya locally at para ma withdraw mo yung pera mo through ATM.

Thats what they are, more advanced technology, e-commerce, but the employees is more than like local government employees traditional attitude.
And one of the most high tech (grrrr!!!!) your card is not acceptable or denied by other payment gateway like PAYPAL, and support of UNION BANK EON is hardly to contact for their Toll Free numbers, and they cannot give you a fully assistance,

Anshley I suggest you just go for it. Maintaining an EON card is inexpensive, only 300 bucks a year. What have you got to loose?

the postman came knocking on the gate holding a “letter” from unionbank. it says that i should go to the nearest unionbank..or whatever.. and today, i called up the bank and was told that my card is there…
i’m having second thoughts though.. the MAIN reason why i applied for the EON card is the paypal feature.. i wanna receive funds through that card…

The reason why some places cannot accept the Visa Electron card is that the Visa Electron card instantaneously checks your account to see whether you have sufficient funds for the transaction. In other words, the terminal has to have the capability to do so, otherwise it will not work.
However, the card should work in most places where Visa cards are accepted, and it works online.
(this is coming from a few years experience with Visa Electron cards in other countries).

yeah,,, i got that after i posted my message… hehehe… pero u said u got an email telling you ur card is already for pick up, bakit kaya ako wala? been trying to contact customer service but on the hotline, can’t find the option for EON inquiry. ung sa head office naman, can’t connect. then ung sa website, under repair nman ung customer service page. i might as well call na lang the branch which i indicated in the application where i will pick the card. hay…

Yes, you can use your debit card to make online purchases just like any regular credit card. I use mine for that purpose.
Just got my bank account credited with the Paypal bank transfer. Aside from the P50.00 deducted by Paypal for less than P7000.00 withdrawals, there is also a P150.00 transfer charge from BPI. I initially thought that only P50.00 was to be deducted.
@ erick again you have to wait several days for it to show up sa eon account mo. It did say 5 to 7 (banking days) but usually it takes a shroter period than that. mga 4 banking days dapat dyan na. Either way again patience.
@ kat your ewallet is the same as eon. Your account is connected to your regular unionbank account.
The reason why i use a debit card for online transactions is so that I just fill it when I need it and they do not have access to my credit card account. You can’t be too sure nowadays

i opened an ATM account yesterday and was given a unionbank e-wallet visa card. i know how a debit card works, but is this the same as the eon card? or are there things the eon card can do na hindi mo magagawa sa e-wallet? one more thing, the teller told me this card will be active today (so 1 day waiting period lang ang activation)

@ louie actually if you have money sa paypal ( somebody paid you through paypal) you can use that money to buy anything online that accepts paypal. Remember that for you to move your money to your eon account you have to withdraw it from paypal to your eon account.

@ram if you have done what was suggested in the previous posts,re your eon if you can already go to an atm and check your balance (or withdraw) and you can also check your eon transaction online (meaning you already can do internet banking) then there really is nothing else you can do except wait.
The error you are getting is just the interface between paypal and unionbank. For some reason everytime paypal tries to link your account to your credit card unionbank still denies it. Remember that this (unionbank) is all processed manually in cebu. Just be patient

@erick Paypal checks if the address you use is the same as the address in your bank. Make sure the two are the same.

nakakainis, di ko tuloy makuha ung pera ko kahit may registered bank account na ako sa paypal.

hi.. i just got my eon card last week, it was a wednesday. i already signed up for internet banking too. after 48 hours of registering my account worked, i was able to check on the deposit i made. this evening, i went to mall of asia burger king. on the cashier there was a visa logo, so i thought of using my eon visa debit on gettin my dinner. before ordering i double checked it with the cashier on duty. he even double checked it with his manager and the manager said yes they do accept, so i handed them over my eon. when the cahsier was swiping it i was waiting for like a couple of minutes. then the cashier went back and told me that my card isnt working. so i got ashamed. i thought it was already activated that’s why i tried it on my meal. how come it dint work? u guys have any idea why? its activated automatically already right? or do i still have to activate it? could you guys help me out coz i dunno be ashamed again if it doesnt go when i use it again.. help me pls. thanks.
@ram activated na yan. If you can see it online and sa atm. Just be patient. Ilang tulog nalang. I suggest you try linking your card in the morning and at night. After you link you will be charged by paypal and the amount is taken from your eon. It will immediately show the transaction and in that transaction from paypal you will get the expuse number. you then enter that expuse number to get verified. After that you can withdraw from paypal already. This takes days again. So again be patient.

@louie unless you have a valid registered internet banking (means you can check through the internet how much your eon’s balance is) it will be useless to link that card to paypal because it will just be rejected. If you’re account is active already with unionbank the next step is to link your card to paypal. If paypal rejects it just wait. be patient, you are almost there. What will happen next is you will be able to link that card to paypal and after you get verified then you can withdraw money out.
@ram the best way to check is to go to an atm and see if you can already see your account balance. I would assume that since you can get in through internet banking and your balance should show there also that your card is activated already.

@ erick just be patient. Usually that means Paypal sends your card number to unionbank for verification and it is getting rejected by unionbank still. As long as tama lahat ng info just wait na lang. LIke I said give it 7 days for it to be accepted.

erick , first things first.
the moment paypal accepts your card then you can start the process. you just have to keep on trying to to enroll it sa paypal. of course your pin should be the new one already because that is what the system will have.
follow the directions from the previous post.
note: there is a limit to how much you can withdraw.

heh heh you are right. Now to them can take forever. But those are growing pains. I emailed them through their eon system and the email told me that they cannot accomodate me since they do not know who i am. It is a bit stupid coz the only way you can email them through their system is if you are an account holder that’s registered.
Re your question. It shouldnt affect your paypal transaction. Just go to your atm and enroll it to make sure. I wouldnt rely too much on waiting for the unionbank people to do it for you.
Quick rule of thumb is this - it takes about five days to make your account in unionbank active so that you can link it to paypal and verified. another 5 days (or more) depends on how lucky you get, to get your money to your unionbank account

in my situation i already enrolled my account online and its up and working(no problems here)

What you need to do is go to an atm and under the options there “enroll” your EON. They should tell you that you need to do this when you get your card, otherwise you lose valuable time waiting for Unionbank. Bank employees are usually clueless about this.
After this, you can go online and enroll your card for online banking (internet). I think what confuses the bank people is they consider ATM as being online (true) but in actually you have to enroll two times. One for the ATM and the other when you want Internet banking.
If you enroll for internet banking and it rejects your card. Just wait. Their sys people are based in cebu and takes then awhile to do things. When it accepts your card and you are able to register your account already then the next thing is paypal.
Paypal usually takes a few days to accept your new eon so just wait. Usually you will know this because paypal will reject your card when you try to link your card to paypal. But you can already accept paypal payments. you just cannot withdraw it yet. make sure you have at least 200 pesos in your eon.
When paypal accepts your card ( you linked it already . congratulations) next step is confirming it. Note: If you do not have at least 200 pesos in your eon , paypal will reject it. he next step is to confirm your card. Get expuse number which you will see in your eon account transaction info. There is a paypal transaction there for with a line visa XXXX . whatever the four numbers are , that is your expuse number. Confirm your paypal with that expuse and your account is connected to paypal.
Next is withdraw to your account. Then just wait for money to be withdrawable. Just be patient.
yes,my card functions well.it can withdraw from any atm and i can access it from online banking.

hmmm… parang gnito ung nangyari sa kaibigan ko ah… pero nakaka-access ka sa ATM gamit ung EON card mo? ung sa kaibigan ko kc… ok sa online banking… may funds n din ung card nya… but still… denied pa rin sa pag verify ng paypal account…
pero nung try nming iwithdraw ung pera sa card nya thru ATM… “Invalid Card Number” yata or something na sinasabi na may error sa card nya… then… he requested to the bank na ipaggawa n lng xa ng panibagong account… kc may problema sa existing card nya… and after mareceive nya ung card and of course… naghintay ng week… try ulit nmin apply sa paypal.. and un n nga… verified user n sya…
it means.. nasa card ung problema nung sa knya… try mo ung sau kung ganun din…

i have tried contacting customer service of paypal and they said that maybe my billing address and contact nos. are different from what’s on my unionbank account.
i tried correcting some of those errors (even the country code for my contact no.) but then still the same error is displayed.
but before i made an email to paypal,i emailed unionbank first about why i can’t link my card and why it displayed an error but until now there is still no response from them.
buti pa ang paypal 1-2 days lang reply agad.ang bagal ng unionbank usad pagong talaga lalo pa’t kung ang content ng email mo ay may criticism sa system nila parang binabalewala nalang.
and yes, i have my online banking up and working,with funds na and i can check all my transactions sa internet.

You will need the “extended use” number to activate your PayPal account. Just log into your account, there should be a notice there that links to a wizard where you will enter that number and activate your account.
The card is already active the moment you receive it. You just have to put funds into it before you can use it, since it is a debit card.
The three-digit number at the back of your card is the “verification” code for your card. Some credit card processors will ask for this number before processing a transaction as an additional security layer to prevent credit card fraud.

Of course you have to renew your card before it expires! Para tuloy tuloy lang di ba? I don’t know what will happen in case you get a new card, but I assume you just have to add it to your PayPal account and disable the old one.

Meron akong question about the card regarding international online purchases. Tried locating for an answer here pero walang direct answer e.
I’m trying to use this as an alternative to a credit card kasi nga since zero maintaining balance, controlled ko yung pera unlike credit cards. So assuming merong sufficient funds yung account, meron bang fees or charges besides the actual price of the product or service sa card pag international?
Halimbawa bumili ako ng item sa amazon.com na 20 dollars, meron bang fee regarding the purchase since international sya?

with or without email, just make sure of the date of application and branch kung san mo ppick up ung card… tapos register online banking ka sa atm machine ng eon then wait 5 days, tapos add ur card sa paypal tapos wait ka ulet 5 days then call mo eon to get ur expanded use number after that u can withdraw na… goodluck…

I don’t work at Paypal but probably it’s just a one-time glitch and I’m very hopeful that it will work for you the second time around. Kaunting tiyaga lang, gagana din yan eventually! Also you may want to look into opening an account with other banks e.g. BDO

I think what you mean to say is that you can now add bank accounts in PayPal.
I wrote about that recently in another blog entry.
I haven’t withdrawn any money using this new method yet although I have successfully entered my MetroBank savings account in PayPal.
I will definitely update you if ever I do so.

To do this, kindly go to the ATM Machine of UnionBank and insert your card, then look for enroll your card online banking, after that u will receive a receipt… Then wait for the 5 working days, u may now add your eon card at paypal…. next follow the steps given by the paypal after u add a card…
