I don’t like putting other people down, especially Filipinos. Even if their hobby is to rip other people off. But when Rico sent me this link, I was furious. It’s one thing to rip other people’s work but to actually steal a template that costs $3,000 and enter your site into the Philippine Web Awards? Now that should set the record for an all-time low.

A side-by-side comparison Einstein Gan’s award-winning website Einsteinarts.com with 24-7 Media’s “OS Template” tells it all:

Technogra.ph approached Einstein S. Gan, the owner of the site, for clarification. Mr. Gan admitted that his portfolio site was an imitation, but stressed that it was purely accidental and that he “didn’t really knew [sic] about the 24-7media site.” He also claimed that he “added all my own actionscipts, icons, content, background, etc for my own site. I know the skin still looks very much the same to the site you have provided…That’s because I was using it as a template for my own site.”

It seems that this guy goes to great lengths to rip off designs. Some more examples of his ripped work has been posted in the PW forums:

I guess shame and talent are directly related. No talent = no shame. Clearly, he’s no Einstein when it comes to design.
