Looking up the hosting company of a domain/website can be a hassle, and I have always hoped for a one-step tool that allows me to quickly identify who or where a site is being hosted. Enter Who is Hosting This?, a quick, nifty little tool that does exactly that. It’s free to use and free of ads. It even links to the domain your searched for and to the site of the hoster.

Now why would anyone provide such a service free of charge? For me, the answer is simple: domaineering and / or data mining.

Out of curiosity I looked checked its own domain and found that it’s being hosted by MediaTemple, which came out as kind of a surprise to me. They really are just everywhere these days.
