MICHELIN tires rode high at the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Singapore (PCCA SG) when New Zealanders Earl Bamber and Craig Baird claim a one-two finish in the PCCA SG race held in conjunction with the Singapore Grand Prix.
Bamber, in a Nexus Arrows Racing entry, won by just over a second from Baird, winner for the past two years in Singapore, in the SC Global Racing entry. The 23-year-old pole winner and series newcomer wore a special Michelin livery designed to demonstrate MICHELIN Total Performance.
Bamber is currently based in Malaysia for the Nexus Arrows Racing Team, and is also an instructor at the MICHELIN Pilot Experience – hence his first-hand understanding of the Total Performance MICHELIN tyres deliver on and off the track.
“It was a perfect week-end to get pole position and the race win was more than what we had hoped for. It was also great to have Michelin on board as our sponsor. The tyres were brilliant all week-end giving me fantastic performance on the street circuit. We are now looking forward to the next race in Shanghai.”
– Earl Bamber
So far, Bamber is the only series driver to lap the 5.073km Marina Bay street circuit in less than 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
“The tyres had great grip and allowed us to set a new circuit record this week-end showing the great performance from the tyres.”
“It was great to battle with Craig Baird, someone who is the benchmark for Porsche racing in the world”.
“Congratulations to Earl Bamber and Craig Baird on the thrilling duel they brought us. Marina Bay street circuit is a unique circuit and, once again, MICHELIN tyres used for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia have demonstrated their exceptional performance, reflecting the philosophy of MICHELIN Total Performance.”
– Patrick Dias, Michelin Asia-Pacific Motorsport Manager
“Motorsport, including the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, is a perfect platform to demonstrate the benefits of MICHELIN Total Performance. Michelin is the unique worldwide tyre-supplier for all the Porsche Carrera Cups including Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.”
“The philosophy of MICHELIN Total Performance reconciles qualities that some believe to be conflicting by virtue of technology. It is a principle that is at the heart of Michelin’s research and development strategy globally. This exceptional performance is translated into Michelin successes and wins in many world class races such asthe Le Mans 24 hours, the World Endurance Championship, the new Formula E Championship and make them the tyre of choice for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.”
The next two rounds of the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will be held in Shanghai International Circuit, China (October 25-27).
