The Dell Precision M3800 is a sturdy workstation with a 15.6-inch multi-touch display. Protected by Gorilla Glass, Harveenpal Singh, Business Development Manager on Workstations for South Asia showed just how tough it is by running a blade across the screen. For display-heavy users like photographers, videographers, and animators, the display can be upgraded to the Dell UltraSharp QHD+ (3200X1800). All display options are LED-backlit, 10-finger multitouch.
The M3800 comes encased in a solid machined aluminum and carbon fiber-based chassis that can survive rough users and a lot of travelling.
At only 18 millimeters thin it is the thinnest and lightest mobile workstation of the Dell Precision product line. This makes the M3800 more portable than the M4800 and M6800 which was launched just last year.
It does, however, trade a couple of things for size. Unlike the M4800 and M6800 workstation which allows up to 32GB memory, the M3800 can only accommodate up to 16GB DDR3 SDRAM running at 1600MHz. Graphics-wise, the video card is only limited to the NVIDIA Quadro K110M with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory, compared to the M6800 which can go up to 8GB GDDR5 dedicated memory with an NVIDIA Quadro K5100M.
Also, the M3800 throws away all optical drives. So who in need of a DVD or Blu-ray drive may need to look for an external option. Thankfully, the machie comes with three USB 3.0 ports an a 512GB solid state hard drive. For connectivity, options are Wireless LAN (WiFi) and Bluetooth 4.0. It does come with a USB to Ethernet adapter for those who really need to connect using a wired cable.
According to Harveenpal, the M3800 can run up to 10 hours of continuous usage. The Dell Precision M3800 has a starting price of 2087.39 on Amazon.
