Coca Cola Concert ng Bayan: Craig David, Sarah Geronimo and Gary V celebrate 100 years of Coke

Sarah Geronimo - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Celebrating 100 years of Coke, Coca Cola Philippines staged Concert ng Bayan at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on Friday, March 23, 2012. It was a memorable night with concert veterans Mr Pure Energy Gary Valenciano and Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo plus international RnB sensation Craig David. The show also featured top bands Itchyworms, Ebe Dancel, Callalilly, Sandwich, 6Cyclemind, Wolfgang, Gloc 9, Parokya ni Edgar, Someday Dream, Rico Blanco, Never the Strangers, Sponge Cola, Chicosci and Ely Buendia’s Pupil. The party lasted 12 hours from 3PM to 3AM the next day in a one-of-a-kind celebration in the spirit of Coca-Cola’s 100 years of happiness.

The show was hosted by Coke President for Happiness Caloy, who kicked it off with performances by Nvoyz and Koreen Medina. Q-York amped up the volume in preparation for rock acts Itchyworms, Ebe Dancel, and Callalily. MYX VJs Wally and Jose paved the way for Sandwich, Jay Durias, and 6 Cycle Mind.

Basti Artadi of Wolfgang - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Things really heated up when Basti Artadi of Wolfgang went on the stage to sing “Darkness Fell”, “Mata ng Diyos”, and “Natutulog Kong Mundo”. The crowd got a wild surprise when Gloc-9 entered, rapping to “Halik Ni Hudas” with Wolfgang. Gloc-9 rocked the house with hits like “Hari ng Tondo”, “Lando”, and “Sumayaw Ka”. Parokya Ni Edgar entered and they sang their collab “One-Hit Combo”. Somedaydream performed more mellow tunes before Sarah Geronimo entered the stage.

Gary Valenciano - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Sarah Geronimo gave a memorable performance, singing “End of Time” and “Super Bass”. She went on to cover Adele’s hit “Someone Like You” before surprising the crowd with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. The crowd went wild. A very energetic Gary Valenciano took the stage, dancing with the crowd with a string of classic hits. His son Gabriel Valenciano soon joined him on stage, moving the crowd to their feets.

Craig David - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Midnight struck and everyone was treated to an amazing fireworks display. As the dust settled, Craig David entered the stage. The crowd goes nuts. He wooed the crowd with hits like “Walking Away”, “Insomnia”, “Fill Me In”, “7 Days”, “Friday Night”, and “Time To Party”. The best part was when he sang “Don’t Love You No More (I’m Sorry)”, to everyone’s enjoyment – especially the ladies.

Never the Strangers and Rico Blanco - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Next came Never the Strangers, who sang their hits including “Moving Closer”. They went on to sing “Your Universe” as Rico Blanco came onto the stage. Rico gave an amazing performance, singing “Ngayon”, “Antukin”, “Yugto”, and “Liwanag”.

Yael Yuzon of Sponge Cola - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

The party goes as Sponge Cola went on to sing “Tambay”, “Dina Mabawi”, “Stargazer”, and “Kay Tagal Kitang Hinihintay”. Ever the comedian, frontman Yael paid homage to Whitney Houston by doing his own rendition of “I Will Always Love You” and Craig David’s “Insomnia”. They finished the set by singing “Bitiw” featuring Chicosci.

Miggy Chavez of Chicosci - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Miggy Chavez of Chicosci gave a notable performance, singing a cover of “Unbelievable”. Miggy had a wild time with the crowd, even going down the stage while singing.

Ely Buendia of Pupil - Coke 100 Years Concert ng Bayan

Finally it was time for Ely Buendia and his band Pupil. Ely seemed to be having an off day, putting on a lackluster performance and interacting sparingly with the crowd. Despite this he managed to adore the crowd with “Magasin” from his Eraserheads days.

It was dawn as the party ended and everyone went home high on music with happy memories and ringing ears. What a way to celebrate Coca-Cola’s 100 years of happiness! With Concert ng Bayan being a huge success, the celebration goes on for happy Filipinos everywhere.
